Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed homework problems over aerobic and anaerobic metabolism. We also reviewed glycolysis, preparatory reaction, citric acid cycle, and electron transport chain, including reactants, product, and location for each phase of the reaction."
"We did another practice exam. She is still having some trouble understanding the concepts of genetics. She is using the tips for test taking I gave her well. There were questions she wasn't sure about on the exam, but she was able to work through the answers one by one, eliminating those that didn't make sense with the question or based on prior knowledge, and was able to come up with the correct answer."
"This was my first meeting with the student, so we started by getting to know each other a little. I asked her more specifically about her Biology class, professor, and recent tests and grades to get a better understanding of her situation. We also talked about how I could help her. We decided that going over her notes thoroughly together, highlighting areas that are particularly important, and developing flashcards was a good place to start. Then we jumped right into terrestrial biomes and aquatic ecosystems, going over key words, definitions, and real life examples. We then moved on to her notes on populations, where we discussed distributions, growth rates, and r-related versus k-related species. We ended by agreeing that she would develop flashcards and go over what we highlighted for better reinforcement. I also agreed to send her via email some materials that might aid her in studying. We are scheduled to meet again on Monday, when we will go over communities and viruses to get her ready for her next test."
