Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started working through the logic games workbook, which included learning how to diagram rules, make inferences, and set up linear games."
"I think the student is doing great. She handled some tough questions today. The main takeaways were when you get down to two answer choices, compare them to see what the difference is between them and then look for a key phrase in the stimulus that tells you which side of the difference the answer falls on. Also, we talked about the difference between a premise and a conclusion."
"The student and I reviewed grouping and linear practice games. She was having some trouble diagramming, which is actually stemming from misunderstanding the variable set, mostly. Many games try to trick you into thinking there are multiple variable sets when there is really only one. She is going to do LG practice and we are going to switch things up with reading comprehension on Thursday."
"Today was our last session before the student takes her exam. We started by reviewing a few general chemistry items, such as rate laws. Then we continued working on a past section she took. We touched on a wide variety of topics (plane geometry, algebra, probability with permutations/combinations/repeats, etc), but focused mainly on the most effective methods for solving problems quickly. I also showed her tricks on how to eliminate wrong answer choices, in the event that she got stuck on a particular problem."
"We went over Chapter 8 of the student's DAT General Chemistry Book, which involved the concepts of solubility chemistry and kinetics. We went over topics such as colligative properties, enthalpies of fusion and vaporization, freezing point depression and boiling elevation, as well as the necessary equations in the chapter. I will be meeting with her tomorrow, and I gave her some assigned homework."
"We went over practice problems that I had prepared for her based on what she thought she struggled with in her week of taking practice tests. I am going to give her some practice worksheets that she can complete in the meantime. She is also feeling like she is struggling with the other sciences a little bit too, so we will go over those in our next session as well. Up to this point we have just been focusing on organic chemistry."
