Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student made a final sprint to finish his project before the due date tonight. Long story short, he completed all parts with 15 minutes to spare on the clock, including cleanup and double checking. The first part of the session, we worked on setting up a stack and a hash as templates, so he could represent multiple data types inside his project. We then spent the next part debugging what he put together, and correcting some flow problems he was having."
"The student's motivation was lower today, but he is constantly improving his understanding of iterations, and today he asked questions about scopes. I don't think he knew enough about scopes before to ask specific questions about them, so this tells me that he is learning."
"We covered arrays, how to declare them and how to work with them, and manipulating components. We worked together on a review of an assignment involving arrays, and he grasped the concept. We also covered the modulus (%) operator. I explained to him how it works and gave a few examples. I then explained what a particular line of code was doing in a C++ program."
"We covered variable and method definitions, program structure, and instructor-prompt interpretation. She was struggling with each of these, so I spent most of the time pointing out corrections to mistakes. I also advised the next steps she needs to take and gave that to her as homework."
"We reviewed JDK and JRE installation, did a Sublime text editor intro, a DOS-Batch scripting quick intro, and system configuration. The student was attentive and productive during the session. He showed much better understanding of file structure (what is going on) under the hood of his PC."
"The student and I went over the assignment that his teacher had given him during his first class. Going over for-loops and if statements, he is understanding the topics well, and he was able to complete the majority of the assignment."
