Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For homework, the student had to make a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting his house with a house described in a reading passage. Afterwards we did a little more practice of IR + a. We reviewed and he did a little bit of practice with using 'ir' for talking about the future."
"During this session, I helped the student prepare for a unit test. We used the study guide provided by her teacher. We practiced the imperfect tense and reflexive verb and pronoun usage. There was also vocabulary to review. The study guide was extensive and provided multiple opportunities for her to test her skills. She did extremely well, missing very few of the problems, which we discussed and reviewed. I asked her if she would like to practice reading short passages in Spanish, something she has not yet had much exposure to. We used her copy of Spanish Glamour (fashion magazine) to browse topics of interest. She was able to read and comprehend several short fashion-related descriptions, as well as some advertising promotions. Her pronunciation, fluency and comprehension are very good. Before our next session, we are predicting that the teacher will introduce the use of the preterite and imperfect tenses combined, and she would like to get some practice with this the next time we meet."
"This evening was mainly spent reviewing the uses of the preterite tense vs. the imperfect. The student has a good amount of specific notes that we reviewed as well as the verb conjugation forms. We also worked on his exam review packet since finals will be coming in the next week or so. For our next session we will focus on the tu and Ud commands, both positive and negative; we will also complete the review packet in its entirety. He will continue to review and study the notes from class focus on remembering the verb definitions, key words, and trying to understand what overall meaning the sentences are conveying."
"She wrote out lines for her presentation on future-tense conjugations. We practiced the lines for pronunciation and fluidity. She also edited her cause and effect paper for her Writers Workshop class, so it would not exceed the word limit."
"Today I helped the student with his study guide for his Spanish test. We reviewed newer and older material. We will try and have a session next week where he can review more vocabulary and verbs that he learned in previous lessons that he will need to know. His test is next Friday."
"We finished Section 1 today. The student practiced the German numbers, asking questions, forming simple commands and the use of "erst" and "schon" in contrast practice exercises. We also introduced the question word "wohin" and the difference between "wo" und "wohin.""
