Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began working with general properties of functions more in depth in this session. The student reported that his test on trig functions went fairly well, although possibly not as well as some of the previous tests. We will spend more time on this before his final next week. For the material on functions he has some difficulty with transformations, although I may have tried to get him to tackle overly advanced material at this early stage. Other aspects of this subject matter have gone smoothly, and I anticipate we will overcome any problems in our next session or two."
"I worked with the student on her online algebra class. The class gives instructional videos and hints to problems and the student must complete so many in a row to pass the lesson. She was stuck on a few lessons that I helped her with. These lessons included absolute value expressions, graphing points, finding sets of points for parabolas, solving systems of equations using substitution and elimination, and simplifying algebraic expressions."
"We covered modeling, addition, and subtraction of fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals. The student was given homework to practice these skills. I have no major concerns from this session."
"On Wednesday, I went over the rest of the first chapter of algebra with the student. She seems to know a lot of the concepts already, and she is picking up the new concepts very quickly. At our next session, we will be beginning chapter two. For homework, I gave her a few worksheets to complete to give her practice on the sections we went over."
"Today we worked on a page from the math book, dealing with factoring. I also taught how to use an analog clock for multiples of 15, and money/coins for multiples of 25."
"The student and I covered proportions and similar figures, equations and problem solving, percent of change, square roots, and the Pythagorean theorem. In order to gauge progress, I made the student solve all of the odd exercises after we practiced all the even exercises. The student did not struggle with any of the material that we covered today. As always, he has been given homework for our next tutoring session so that he practices and applies the information covered. I did not have any concerns with today's tutoring session."
"Today we worked on addition problems involving 3 and 4 addends with one or two digits each, subtraction problems with 2 digits numbers, and word problems involving addition and subtraction. These were the first several pages in a packet of new practice materials for 4th grade math. The student did very well with the math problems, missing only a few toward the beginning."
"We reviewed confidence intervals and hypotheses testing. The student does well on all his homework assignments. We also looked at key words he needs to home in on."
"The student and I reviewed algebra concepts such as slopes, vertical and adjacent angles, and convex as well as concave polygons."
"We covered the basic introductory concepts of geometry in depth and did a comprehensive overview of the upcoming topics. We also did a lot of practice questions. The student is very much ahead of his grade level and knows the concepts very well."
"The student and I met to help him finish up the final homework he had for class, which included inequalities, systems of equations, matrices and some other assignments that were missing points or needed to be corrected. He has finals after this, and will be done with the course. He understands most of the concepts and is able to follow along with the steps. He can look over all of his past assignments as a study guide."
"We covered elementary level derivatives and their rules. We went over derivatives of many different types of functions and also rules such as chain rule, quotient rule, product rule, etc. We also covered uses of derivatives such as velocity, tangent lines, etc."
