PASSAGE
A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is a safety device that monitors the flow of current in a circuit's hot and neutral conductors. In a normally operating circuit, the current flowing on both conductors is equal. If the GFCI detects a very small difference—as little as 5 milliamperes—between the two, it assumes that current is leaking to ground through an unintended path. It then rapidly shuts off power to prevent electric shock. This is a much smaller amount of current than what is required to trip a standard circuit breaker, which primarily protects against overloads and short circuits.
A power tool works perfectly when plugged into a standard outlet, but instantly trips a GFCI outlet every time it is used. What is the most logical conclusion?
