PASSAGE
Inspect a portable ladder before each use and again if it is dropped, struck, or moved to a different work area where conditions may have changed. Remove from service any ladder with a cracked rail, loose rung, or missing foot. Maintain three points of contact while climbing. A metal ladder must remain at least ten feet from exposed energized conductors unless the electrical source has been de-energized, locked out, and verified. Warning tape or rubber gloves do not reduce the required clearance.
A metal ladder passes its morning inspection. It is later moved to another room and accidentally strikes a doorway. The nearby electrical conductors have been switched off but not locked out or verified. What must the worker do before using the ladder?
