Jamal's narrative opening
Chris's science fair project was due in two weeks, and he and his partner could not agree on anything. His partner was Noah, his best friend since first grade.
On Saturday, Noah was sprawled on Chris's bedroom floor with a notebook. "We should build a robot," he said. "A robot that picks up trash!"
"A robot?" Chris said. "We don't even have the parts. Let's do a chemistry project. We could mix baking soda and vinegar and see which mix makes the most bubbles."
Noah sat up. "Chemistry is boring. Everybody does baking soda."
"Robots break," Chris said. "Then we'd have nothing."
The two boys stared at each other. The deadline was getting closer, and neither of them was going to give in.
In Jamal's narrative opening, what technique did he use to orient readers?
