Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's session, the student and I worked on his listening skills, where I read him several long passages, sentence by sentence, and he translated them."
"We went over the colors of the rainbow again. I think that it was beneficial for the youngest student, and the rest of the family, as we had not gone over this vocabulary in a while. We practiced saying our colors and some numbers by playing Candy Land. I think that this was a great way to practice and was engaging. I am very impressed with the whole family."
"We went over the student's homework together. The more words he learns, the more he associates Chinese meanings and English meanings in one direction: from English to Chinese, but not the other way around. This could affect future study and eventually affect his dream to study in China someday. I will test his ability by addressing the word boundaries, so that he can use that as a cue for associating Chinese meanings in a different way. In this case, he might have a second path for tracking the language properties."
"Today was a good session with her. This time, we ditched the story that had been causing some frustration last time and instead focused on a manageable amount of new material, mixed with review. We introduced the concessive clause (sui ran... ??) and used it to construct an interesting sentence. Her Chinese is at a good place for a first year student at her level."
"We reviewed the 12 months and learned the 7 weekdays. Reviewed vocabulary and text in Lesson 6. Review key sentences from Lesson 1 to Lesson 6. The student and I reviewed and practiced making questions using known verbs. Review 6 person pronouns and possessive forms."
"We started with the story book today, today's book was called "from head to toe" where they learned how to say and identify the body parts like head, shoulder, foot etc. in Chinese. They also learned a couple of new animals such as giraffe, gorilla, and bull. After reading the story book, we played their favorite "Chinese for kids app" where they reviewed the previous lesson, and then learned a new lesson of identifying the characters and writing simple words like: one, two, three, and four. After the app I used the whiteboard to let them practice writing and drawing in Chinese."
