Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"At first I checked the student's vocabularies from the previous chapters, which she almost all knew. We then discussed and corrected a few pronunciations . For the rest of the session we covered Chapter 5. Homework will be to go over the things we learned in chapter 5 and practice pronunciation. It was a great lesson."
"Concepts covered today included; the alphabet, using the verb -is, personal pronouns, and verb derivations. I also introduced simple question form using a verb and pronoun. The student was cooperative and did a great job today."
"Today, the student was committed to speaking only German! We went to different rooms in her house, walking around naming things in German as they came up. The student clearly knows and remembers a lot of vocabulary (she on a whim remembered that refrigerator in German is "Kuhlschrank")."
"Today we covered rooms in the house, and things that you find in the house such as furniture and items in the kitchen, like a sink, microwave, pot, and pan. Then we learned how to state in which room and where furniture is, including the prepositions 'on top of' and 'next to.'"
"Today, we tackled the modal verbs. We covered all the modals in German, their different conjugations, and how they affect sentence structure. We wrote and translated some complex sentences with 2 to 3 verbs and also talked about how best to understand complex German sentences. It was intense; we covered a lot of ground. The student is really progressing."
"We covered German fairy tales, including "Der Wolf und die Sieben Geisslein." We reviewed pronunciation, vocabulary, and points of grammar (word order, separable prefixes). The student struggles with pronunciation ("j" sound, "ie/ei," etc.). We will continue to work on this next session. The student read sentences; I repeated, then the student repeated, then I translated. The student's extra practice is to read and translate the rest of the fairy tale. The student is experiencing difficulties determining speaking order, and when to repeat sentences, but nothing serious. The student did a good job with practicing pronunciation and enlarged her vocabulary."
