I helped the student practice the poem that he memorized for class. His only homework was to type the poem into a document and make it look good, so we spent our time working with more advanced aspects of formatting and the use of keyboard shortcuts. While a little outside of our normal areas of work, I feel that these were important skills for the student to learn. At the end of our time, we discussed his progress on his history project.

The student and I had a great session! We did a review of an interesting writing assignment. The assignment was to not take a side - meaning, I did not want him to write a persuasive piece. Instead, I wanted him to explore the different sides of an argument. This is an interesting and difficult approach to writing. The student did a great job! The topic was "Should students be able to grade their teachers?" After that, we did some fun creative writing exercises.

The student worked on his annotated bibliography. He only needed 1-2 sentences describing how he was using the source, so it wasn't difficult. We also worked on more note taking, and his homework was to continue taking notes for his research paper.

Yesterday went very well. We started the session by finishing up his math homework. He does great with multiplication. After that, we worked more on the island writing project. We filled in more details about the island and discussed the importance of using descriptions to interest the reader. He was doing much better by the end of the session. We also spent about 10 minutes going over this spelling words for this week.
