Much like pre-calculus he is sometimes unsure of himself even whenever he has the correct answer so we made sure to talk about why answers made sense rather than just saying they were correct.

We covered how to cover arc lengths today. While the student struggled with the material, I was glad that he managed to be persistent. He eventually understood the material, but I recommended that he continue to do more practice problems on arc lengths. I think he may need to review some basic geometry concepts, such as circumference and area. It will make pre-calculus easier for him. As long as he continues to work hard, I am confident that he will succeed.
