Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Prior to today, the student took his practice exam. We went over the physical science problems missed, which turned out to be mostly calculation based. Kinematics, collisions, and energy were topics we focused on. As a final review we did an overview of the physical science concepts using a series of concept and answer papers. His actual exam will be in two days, and he will use the remaining time to review and then relax prior to the test."
"We went over physics mechanics formulas and verbal from her prep books. She will practice on her own and bring questions for next time. I encouraged her to take a full length practice test as soon as possible to start working on strategies."
"We went over the student's practice exam. She received a 29, which was 7 points higher than her test a week ago. She was struggling with Physics the most. We went over that material. She also has review sheets to look over."
"The student and I went over the verbal section of the practice exam that she had taken, and talked about specific questions she missed and some general test taking pointers for that section. We then reviewed the physics she had covered this past week and worked on corresponding problems."
"I had given the student an ambitious review schedule. She has done most of the work, which is great. Today she wanted to review organic chemistry together. She says she is comfortable with stereochemistry, which is one of the big topics. I told her to focus on sugar chemistry, lab techniques, and carbonyl chemistry as well. She needs to strengthen her intuition for classifying reaction mechanisms. Once she can identify the mechanism, she is very capable in ochem. We looked at using patterns to help us identify the mechanism and predict reaction outcomes. I also urged her to stick to strategies like process of elimination, and she saw examples of questions where that was more helpful than trying to arrive at an unequivocal answer. The student will continue to prepare with practice material."
"The student and I worked on several problems he had pulled out from his most recent practice test to discuss, both Quant and Verbal. We also talked about application and school visit considerations and about the relative merits of full and part-time programs."
