"The student worked on factoring complex equations into their simplest form. This included polynomials with two different variables. We did some by the grouping method and some by the substitution method. They were able to do them on their own eventually."
"Today we covered Lesson 1 - Bonjour! Grammar subject pronouns. There is an extra pronoun "on" which is used as a collective "we" conjugation of the verb "etre" in the present tense. The gender of words was also covered in this lesson. I reminded the student to make sure to always learn the gender of the words encountered. The definite articles are le, la, l' and les L' can be used for either masculine or feminine nouns - do not use articles in front of proper nouns. I asked the student to please review all of the mini dialogues and listen to them several times. He is also to complete the exercises at the end of every topic in the "grammaire" section for the ones we covered in class. Tres bien!"
"We covered solving limits algebraically, graphically, and using standard substitutions (e.g. sin x/x). She has a good understanding of the concepts and just needed some assistance in working through the problems all the way to completion. She is a fast learner and remained engaged throughout"
"We continued working on Math today. The student seems to think he is weak in subjects, but he honestly has all the knowledge. We are skipping Tuesday but he is taking a practice math section, and Wednesday we will go over that together. He learns quickly and realizes his mistakes now, so we should be progressing nicely."
"We did a roleplay of checking into a hotel, then read a dialogue in which a man bought a train ticket, and finally learned how to modify prepositions to say different places you're going, which is useful for telling a taxi driver where to take you. The role play was good listening comprehension practice, since nothing was written, and the student pointed out that reading the dialogues is much easier to understand than the role plays. I'll keep including some listening comprehension activities so that he can get more practice with that."
"We worked on CARS today. We looked carefully at the first three passages in diagnostic 6 of the and analyzed them and talked about verbal reasoning strategy in general. We discussed the importance of a reread and how that can benefit your score. Also, we discussed the importance of reading with purpose vs. reading passively and actively, etc."
