Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We corrected the student's homework and discussed his answers. We then worked on a sample ELA exam. His comprehension has shown improvement."
"Today, we continued where we left off on writing and reading comp. Concerning writing, we really hammered the rules the student needs to follow when approaching the essay portion of the test. I feel he really knows them well now and can demonstrate it on a test. Regarding reading comprehension, today went pretty well. Overall, he knows the process, which is what is most important. He will be ready next month for sure!"
"Today's session was one of the student's absolute best. He read The Giving Tree and got about halfway through Oh The Places You'll Go. We had a conversation about the connections between The Lorax and The Giving Tree that showed the depth of his comprehension, and he remained very actively engaged after switching to Oh The Places You'll Go as well."
"The student read several short stories and correctly answered the reading comprehension questions. We used worksheets and a crossword puzzle for antonyms and synonyms. We finished off with a few minutes of a baseball word search puzzle."
"The student and I wrote the introductory paragraph and outlined the first body paragraph of her practice essay. I asked her to turn the outline into a complete paragraph by the time we meet tomorrow. This way, we can work on the rest of the paper tomorrow."
"Student 1 had science homework that required that she read an article about a geophysicist who is tracking earthquakes in California and Asia. She read the article aloud to me; we discussed it, and then she completed several pages of questions about it. Student 2 also had an article to read on the Constitution for social studies. She read the article aloud to me, and we discussed it while she answered several pages of questions about it. After that, we went over her 10 vocabulary words three times, making sentences and defining them."
