"The student and I talked about the conditional verbs again, and vocab that is specific to this unit. To help him learn and remember vocab, we discussed different endings like -dad and -cion, so he could more easily remember parts of speech. He did really well with his conjugating. He just needs to work more on memorizing the meaning of words. We discussed creating flashcards so he can practice more before his quiz and in the future."
"The student and I worked on identifying direct and indirect object pronouns, and how they translate to reflexive pronouns in the third person. We also discussed comparisons of English verb tenses to Spanish verb tenses."
"The student and I worked on irregularities in the present subjunctive verb conjugations. Because there are so many irregularities in the present indicative, there are many in the subjunctive. We made a master list of verbs and their changes and practiced them in context, and then I quizzed her on the verbs and their meanings and conjugations. Next, we spent some time reviewing her vocabulary, with me describing the word in Spanish and her thinking of the word that matched the description. Over the next week, she will study the list of verbs that we created and the vocabulary, and next week, we will do some paragraphs with the grammar and vocabulary in context."
"The student and I worked on reviewing all the uses of the conditional, specifically the use of it as the future of the past. We then went back and did a lot of conversation practice. I asked him to answer some basic questions, in Spanish, about his life, what he likes, doesn't like, etc. Then we practiced the past tense. I gave him an example by telling him some things I had done the day before. He then went through what he had done the day before. He knows a lot of grammar concepts, and we will continue to work on putting them into practice. Conversation and being able to put the Spanish grammar concepts into context will be my main focuses with him."
"The student did even better tonight than during our last session. He worked hard at fleshing out the assignment he and I worked on last time. He is very bright. Learning some new language learning tools will go a long way in helping him get through his Spanish class. Tonight, we worked on a review of an email reply assignment he will have due tomorrow using similar methods as the summary assignment we worked on together. He powered through the work. He knows a lot more than he probably gives himself credit for. I have observed that he understands about 70% - 75% of the text considered. From that, through context he gets the gist of the subject matter. Tonight we used Google Translate and a little extra help to isolate and research the words he was unfamiliar with. I believe that even if he has to do the work on his own, he will have more success using this method. Great job!"
"The student did his homework about conditional without problems for the first half, and I answered some questions and checked that he answered correctly. Then, I gave him exercises to continue practicing irregular verbs in the conditional. He did a great job!! He is a good listener and has great memory!"
