Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on her trigonometry homework. She was very good at identifying whether to use sin, cosine, or tangent to determine angles or lengths of a triangle, and she was adept at using her calculator's functions. Her only room for improvement in this regard is visualizing the word problems in order to correctly place the values/distances. In general, she has done very well this semester and had an overall B, replacing her previous grade. Well done!"
"Today, we worked with graphing and finding the foci of ellipses. We also reviewed material from the prior semester for a cumulative quiz that is tomorrow. No grades have been received yet. We will be meeting again next Monday."
"We worked on her homework, which covered some beginning algebraic equations -- solving for the unknown variable, focused on using the distributive property. It also covered some square roots. Then, we re-did a past quiz that she didn't do very well on, which was focused on systems of equations, I explained the substitution method to her. She had a great attitude and was doing very well by the end of the session. The only thing that she got wrong a few times were her negative and positive signs when combining like terms to solve for the unknown."
"The student and I went over Riemann sums today--trapezoidal, right hand, left hand, and midpoint sums. We went over his quick checks that he got wrong in class and corrected them. After that we discussed the x and y table Riemann sum examples. He has a good hold on the concept. I found extra practice problems for him to work through."
"We went over the practice quiz and additional practice problems on recurrence relations and differential equations. I outlined which formulas to memorize and which techniques to practice and know well so the student should be prepared for her quiz. I plan to send additional examples scanned from my textbooks to help with her studying. We will continue working on example problems both from class and from my own textbooks as we move forward into more differential equations."
"The student had some derivative and integral review problems for her final exam. We went over those problems. She had a little difficulty with them but nothing major. She also said she started to do area between functions."
