Today, I brought gummy bears to use as incentive for the student to talk only in German for at first 5-, then 10-minute intervals. She did extremely well off the bat as soon as we established the rules to the game, and we sat in the living room telling each other things to draw in German, which prompted other story telling from both myself and from the student! She totally remembers so many things, but just needs to brush up on the vocabulary, namely with verbs. We played German vocabulary games on her tablet, and she has clearly already mastered the basic vocabulary of German language in general. Today we made progress on her comfort to say what she wants to say in German.

The student and I are still going over da and wo compounds, and I also am introducing some reflexive constructions that use prepositions, which ties into da and wo compounds. Also, as is typical for German high school students, he is struggling a bit with the past tense (though definitely showing some improvement).

Today, we covered German questions words (who, what, when, where, for whom,) and practiced making sentences with these question words. I then had a fill-in-the-blank exercise for each of the girls where the question word of the sentence was omitted, and they had to select the correct word themselves from the word bank. They all did very well, and I don't think we will need to go over it again.

We started the session with a dictation about activities in different rooms of the house. The student did a fantastic job! Then we started a new chapter about directions. After various practices and new vocabulary about different locations in a city, she practiced with a handout of a city map to ask for directions and also to give directions to different locations. She wrote down the learned vocabulary and the plural form. The remaining time of the session, we practiced conversations in different situations.

We started today with some good conversation about the week, the film "Das Boot," and the student's return to work after a week of "Urlaub." Then we continued to work in conversation, finishing chapter 7 from pages 81 - 83. He will complete the written exercises on page 82 for next time. We then read on in Die Physiker, ending at the middle of page 37.
