Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we went over a couple of very important concepts: domain and range. These are difficult for a lot of students, but the student didn't seem to have much trouble. (He came up with a clever way of explaining them as "shadows" cast on either axis.)"
"Today we went over problems dealing with writing equations of lines that are parallel or perpendicular to a given equation. We also reviewed inverse functions. The student was a little unsure of this but managed to pick up quickly. We then went over a variety of problems like factoring trinomials, wind and current problems, radicals, and rational exponent expressions. As long as the student remains confident, I don't see why he wouldn't get a passing, if not above passing, grade on Friday's exam."
"Today we worked on defining and graphing functions. We reviewed how to make a table of ordered pairs using the function rule, plot the linear function, finding slips from a graph, and slope-intercept form."
"Today we worked on the student's material for his exam. It was over unit three. He did really well with the information. Most of his issues were word problems and just pulling out the right information. By the end of the session, he was much more comfortable with the material."
"Today we worked on triangle congruence theorems and postulates, and proving triangle congruence with these theorems. The student understood the five congruence theorems, but had a tougher time building a two-column proof, so we practiced planning them until she was more comfortable with them."
"Today we worked on unit conversions. Mostly we focused on using milli-, centi-, and kilo- prefixes."
