Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I resumed our review of the subjects he covered in class at the beginning of the year. We've agreed to split our weekly sessions into reviews of this past material and a discussion of the more recent material he is currently learning. We identified areas where he would benefit from further review and we agreed to revisit those areas next week. We next spend some time reading through the chapter currently assigned for this week's class, and discussing his approach to note-taking. I hoped this exercise would help him gain the confidence that he can devote less time to this course by allowing himself to read first, then think about what he had read, and then allow himself to take notes. This will allow him to write only what he needs to, while also improving his overall comprehension."
"It was a pleasure to work with the student this evening - what a motivated student! Today we went over how to correctly answer multiple choice questions, and I think it went very well. The student took to the strategies and seemed to appreciate the difference slowing down and analyzing each answer choice by itself can make. Next week we will go over essay writing and outlining and focus more on the substantive content of the course."
"Lecture on WWI and the Treaty of Versailles: German Reparations, Wilson's 14 points, etc. He sounds like he knows his stuff regarding the war itself. I'm trying to show him how WWI essentially leads to WWII, since that is a popular essay topic; plus, it gives more context for significant events such as the rise of the Nazi Party, the troubles in Poland and the Ukraine, etc."
