Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I focused on writing and math. We went over the essay I had him write for homework, which was about whether technology improved life or complicated it. This was a good practice topic for him, because he chose fairly general topics to illustrate his argument rather than specific examples. While this can still produce a successful essay, as we went through his essay, we noticed that it got somewhat repetitive and disorganized. We discussed tips on how to make general topics more specific in order to focus the discussion, and we also practiced rephrasing key words so he wouldn't have to repeat the same phrases again and again. As for math, we went through his homework, and then revisited some old problem sets. He was actually very successful with his homework, correctly answering the "hard" level problems in the sets. Since those are our focus, we went back to hard problems from our earlier sessions in order to gauge his application of the new strategies he's learned. We paid special attention to problems that he had either skipped or missed, and he was very happy when he found that he was now able to complete most of them, and at least make reasonable headway on the others. For homework, I had him compile a strategy list to use during his homework, so at the end of this session, we added to the list, and left him with some more sections of old problems to re-attempt."
"We covered critical reading and sentence completions. Student is doing much better on these. Left the student with practice vocal."
"Student and I had a very strong last session before the May SAT, and I'm optimistic she's going to see a significant improvement from the last time around."
