Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through the student's Latin study guide, focusing specifically on grouping nouns according to declension and verbs according to conjugation. He learned to identify a noun's conjugation by its nominative and genitive endings and a verb's conjugation by two of the four principal parts. We spent a good deal of time parsing nouns and verbs, and I also explained the purpose of noun and verb endings. He said that he learned vocabulary through making flashcards, and I recommended that he color-code his words to help memorize their conjugations, declensions, and genders. He has a comprehensive exam on Tuesday. He seems to have a good grasp on the grammar. Next session we will do some exercises with parsing verbs and nouns and will look at some of the new material covered, with the goal of him gaining confidence with the material. We will review his exam once he gets it back."
"Today the student covered chapter 15 out of Ecce Romani I. We covered vocab from the chapter, the imperfect tense, neuter nouns, and numbers. Today he struggled with vocab retention so I went over some of the previous chapters' vocab. Overall his attitude towards the material is positive. His mother told me that his quiz grades have improved into the upper 80's and lower 90's range."
"We reviewed the logic of the indicative mood and read part of a story the student will be reading for class. I will be creating some additional online quiz sets for her to practice the perfect passive system. I recommended that she review the quiz sets 5 minutes per day, in addition to whatever other time she spends working on Latin."
