Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was the session before the student's final exam, so every concept she had covered throughout the year was reviewed. We discussed general knowledge of the periodic table, nomenclature, determination of empirical and molecular formulas, stoichiometry, acid/base reactions, structure of an atom according to Bohr, valence electron theory, different types of bonds, etc. It was a thorough review, and we spent extra time on those concepts with which she struggled most, or which were relatively new and we had not spent much time on previously. For example, we did practice problems for both acid/base reactions and enthalpy determination. The former required her to convert units between molarity, moles, and grams as well as use stoichiometry. The latter included similar conversions as well as a working knowledge of endo- and exothermic reactions. At the end of the session, the student said she attributed the 28% increase in her grade to my tutoring."
"The student and I reviewed further concepts in stereochemistry. We also reviewed some properties of hydrocarbons. We discussed also enantiomers and diastereomers."
"The student and I went through various questions he had about units he didn't understand well. We spent time talking about work and energy as well as vector coordinates."
