Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the ACT problems that the student did not attempt the previous session. He seemed more focused this time around and made decent attempts at the problems he skipped last session. It was apparent that he was trying, and he made it through every problem."
"We covered the different properties of equality and the converse, inverse, syllogism, and contrapositive of logic. We talked about the law of detachment and how to read a Venn diagram. The student has a test on Monday that we are preparing for."
"We covered the distance formula, and the midpoint formula mainly. She did not know any of the formulas; they were not given to her by her teacher. She had a positive attitude toward everything. I made sure to circle the formulas for her to study. She has the rest of the online problems to practice on her own time. This is the first time we met with each other. I definitely enjoyed my time with her and hope that I am making a difference in her learning experience with this subject."
"We covered the following concepts in Geometry: Solving for the coefficients of a quadratic function and some proving exercises. He had trouble with the choice of parameters in finding the coefficients of functions whose graphs are parabolic or possibly linear based on given data points. He seemed frustrated at first with the quadratic or parabolic equations and related problems. When he discovered the correct method for solving these, he then showed eagerness in doing the other problems. I did not have any strategies to teach apart from the solution of systems of equations that result from the quadratic related exercises solution. He had a few remaining odd nos. that he could do from the exercises at the end of each chapter in his textbook."
"We covered the latter part of Chapter 2 for her Chapter 2 test tomorrow. She was very confused about proofs and how to write the statements and the reasons. So we went through three proofs and carefully explained how you get from the given to the proven. After really explaining that she may have to go all the way back to Chapter 1 theorems and add those to her tests notes, I think it clicked for her. She ended up doing very well on the section quiz. I believe if she really takes her time and makes sure she has all of the theorems written down on her notes, she will do very well!!"
"We covered the same concepts as last time in preparation for his upcoming quiz. He is doing well on most of the material but needs to show his work more often as he often does mental math. We also checked that the textbooks we have are in agreement. He said he is feeling so-so in class but his mastery of the subject seems like it is progressing."
