Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed strategic approaches to the quantitative section across a variety of concepts. The student has a very strong basis with the math section, and should be able to meet his goal if he can become more efficient at answering questions correctly."
"We started with a data analysis problem, but then spent pretty much the whole time on factoring quadratic equations. At first he seemed totally unfamiliar with them, but seemed to get more comfortable after trying a few problems."
"We went over her issue and argument essays that she had prepared before the session. I emphasized the importance of structure for the essays and how clear writing has a clear structure and how it is important to present the ideas in a clear and explicit way without assuming that the reader knows what she is talking about. I edited her essays, sent them back, and we discussed the areas of improvement as well as strategies for answering essay prompts she had less prior knowledge about but could still answer by using a structured response. I will edit some more essays of hers by the next session"
"We went over practice drills regarding the verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections for the GRE. The student struggled most with vocab, but was able to narrow down her answers to two instead of five choices. She was very focused throughout the entire session and I noticed improvement, particularly in the verbal section. I had her write an intro paragraph when practicing the analytical writing portion, and she did a great job writing a concise thesis."
"We went over practice problems covering the following topics: data interpretation, translating word problems into equations, using guess-and-check to solve quantitative interpretations, and symbology."
"We went over questions on the reading section. The student is fairly strong on reading comprehension (through practice never hurts), and is weaker on sentence completion and equivalent sentence questions. Learning more vocabulary would help greatly. I recommended going through a list of flashcards, or an online list of words every day or every other day (repetition over a period of time is the best way to learn vocabulary)."
