"The student and I did several more timed reading sections, and then worked on some different GRE materials. She is definitely showing improvement in the reading section, especially with time management."
"The student has been busy with AP tests, but he still made the time to do a couple tests in Science and Reading. We discussed the fact that he still has time to improve a lot before the exam if he puts sufficient work into it. We began the session by going over most of the science problems he missed on the test he took. Sometimes this was due to not finding the appropriate place on the chart or graph to find the solution or not finding the correct place in the text to address the problem. We talked about how on some problems the question is self-contained -- that is, you don't need to look at charts or graphs to answer it, but rather need to use reasoning. He noted that he prefers science passages which have fewer charts and graphs; those are easier for him to manage. We then went through some reading passages and noted that key lines in the passages often answer questions. Sometimes the answers are taking verbatim from the passage itself. Finally, we worked on math word problems. We discussed percentages, ratios, probability, and distance/time problems. On his last drill, he got all the questions correct. He is definitely improving in this area. For next time he will do at least one, maybe two, full practice tests."
"The student and I met for the first time to work on the ACT. I taught him how to handle the Science section."
"Today we used the online practice ACT platform to do half of a math test (first 30 questions), and an entire English section. The student scored 22 out of 30 on the math section, and 63 out of 75 on the English section. On English, that is a 29 or 30 -- great!! On math, if she continued that same ratio and scored 44 out of 60, she would earn a 27 -- also great! On Monday, we will practice reading and science."
"Today we went over English and Math. The student did awesome in both sections, especially English. She had a little trouble with questions dealing with semicolons vs. commas, which we worked on. For math, we refreshed several topics, including tangent lines and simplifying radicals. She has made a lot of progress and I'm really optimistic about her upcoming exam."
"Today we went over English, math, and science that she did for homework. We then drilled questions from an online learning platform that she missed in her homework. She feels a lot more comfortable with these types of questions now."
