Session Summaries by GMAT Tutors

Lakewood, WA GMAT tutoring
This session we focused on some issues she encountered in practice problems she did on her own. We discussed several problems involving exponents as well as some problems that relied on logic skills. We spent the second half of our session finishing our review of geometry which included some circle problems, multiple figure/shape problems and some that dealt with coordinate geometry. The student can solve many problems if she sticks with a problem and applies the strategies she is learning. Next week we will focus on the data analysis section of the GRE.

The student and I began our math review with the arithmetic concepts that will be covered on the GRE, since she wanted to start from null. I asked her to read through the section in the official math review packet and attempt the practice problems therein. She had no trouble completing calculations using the order of operations. We spent some time on problems involving factoring, primes, number properties and percentages greater than 100%. She showed a great deal of initiative in attempting problems before the session and asked apt questions about the problems that tripped her up. She also supplemented her reading with a textbook of her own. Homework will be the algebra section of the official review, and a set of practice problems on the website. The homework introduces quantitative comparison questions, which we will begin to discuss next time.
