"The student and I focused on rules of commas, turning word problems into algebraic statements, and OLSAT non-verbal problems. He did very well in learning and remembering the rules of commas and how to turn word problems into algebraic statements. We worked through the non-verbal OLSAT problems together, and we applied and learned strategy for these questions."
"The student completed a reading comprehension passage on her own. I gave her a 3rd grade reading passage, which she was able to read through in 20 minutes. She completed 6 comprehension questions referring to main idea, inference, vocabulary recognition and comprehension."
"Today, we covered all three sections of the test. The student and I began by looking at some of the practice problems on working with negative numbers. She completed 5 problems (add, sub, multi, and div). She is beginning to get the hang of it. Then we switched to word problems. The first few took her some time to figure out what was being asked. The last few were easier for her. We covered: number line; working with fractions; finding multiples; deciding on operation; square roots and exponents. For verbal, we practiced what to do if you "sort of" know the word. She practiced problems with synonyms; we never got to sentence completions. For reading, we covered a passage. We will spend more time on reading next session."
