Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was working on exponential growth and decay equations. We spent the session working through a few homework problems from this section that mainly focused on modeling populations of countries over time. The student is doing very well understanding this section and just needs the benefit of homework problems for practice to get comfortable with manipulating these types of equations."
"The student was working on multiplying fractions and whole numbers. There was some confusion on how the process works because the student shared that the substitute teacher showed him another method. Once we were able to work past that, the student quickly picked up the skill. Some of the answers needed to be reduced. The student said that his teacher hadn't taught the class how to do that yet, so we will review that on our next session."
"The student was working on series solutions to ODE. We talked a little about the theory of convergence, but mainly focused on the mechanical aspects of working with series. We used the general power series method and then the method of Frobenius to solve some ODEs."
"The student went over a large amount of adding factors with variables and simplifying these equations for 45 minutes. Today, he multiplied fractions and decimals. He needs to improve in adding decimals. He frequently put the decimal point in the wrong spot. He should double-check his work with decimals. We will continue to work on this next session."
"The student went through some division with decimals and 2-digit numbers today. She did well, and I was showing her estimating tricks to approximate the answer. We also worked on some review problems, and she had a little trouble remembering order of operations and got overwhelmed by word problems or questions that seemed hard. We broke them down so she could see they're not as scary as they appear!"
"The student worked for a little bit on her paper for AP statistics. We discussed the format, and how to write the paper."
