Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed a homework assignment sheet dealing with reviewing family vocabulary by selecting the proper possessive adjective. After that we transitioned into reading Spanish aloud to work on some mispronunciations. The student completed with listening to a song and trying to pick out the lyrics he recognized."
"Today in our session, we worked on direct object pronouns and stem changes. I first gave him a "pre-test" worksheet to track his understanding of the material. I then went over the answers with him and saw he had the general idea but needed more practice. We went over the grammar rules and worked through the worksheets his teacher had assigned. I had him think aloud as he answered the questions so he understood why a word required a stem change and why a direct object pronoun was used. As he worked, I wrote down some other rules that acted as a thinking process to using stem changes and direct object pronouns. Towards the end of the session I gave him a spelling test which was useful seeing as in his last test he had problems with spelling. For spelling, he should work on the C and Q sounds as well as the C and Z. He should also review how to conjugate regular verbs in (tu, el, ellos, nosotros) because they are important in the stem changes."
"We worked on conversational beginning Spanish, focusing on intonation and pronunciation, accent reduction techniques, and basic vocabulary. The student has a basic understanding of Spanish grammar and the fact that he is bilingual (English and Swedish) make him more capable of understanding the concepts of translations. After a basic assessment, I was able to focus on the beginning of casual conversation strategies. I was able to include some mnemonics for some challenging words. I left him notes on the material covered today, and I suggested that he review it again before our next session. The student is a bright and creative individual who is absorbing the material very efficiently."
