[COVERED/PROGRESS/CHALLENGES]: We discussed Solution Equilibria. First, we discussed equilibrium once again, to shore up the student's understanding using my K-eq-o-meter to do a live animation that really hammered down the central concepts in Equilibrium Chemistry. We discussed the value/variable concept, which later allowed me to make clear how to bypass the ICE tables that had confused her and just use variable substitution and understanding the meaning of the derived equations used to solve Molar Solubility and K-sp problems. She feels much more comfortable after today's session in dealing conceptually and quantitatively with the central idea in Chemistry of equilibrium. She also has seen an application of equilibrium, which made her far more comfortable with the time we have invested thus far in the nitty-gritty of the quantum model of chemical reactions, as well as why we had to push so hard to be prepared for Orgo. [EXTRA PRACTICE]: We will meet next on Wednesday, five days from now. She will read my prepared chapter on Acid-Base, keeping in mind that it is merely an aspect of equilibrium. If necessary, we will begin with a review of targeted subtopics, then move on Electrochem.

The student and I took a more in-depth look at how to answer the GRE analytical writing questions. He had written out responses to several essays, which we went over carefully. I think he is doing a great job of mastering the format and strategies that we discussed. I caught no spelling mistakes, and only a few grammatical errors. I think he has a clear understanding of what he needs to do to be successful in the writing section. We identified several mistakes that are easy to make (but also easy to avoid), such as repeating a word too frequently, which I believe will be one of the little things we can do to improve his performance. We talked about the delicate line of being explicit without being too explicit, and where he could use more and less specificity. I mentioned the importance of practice again. Finally, we came up with strategies to address areas where he currently feels weak (for example, writing only the introduction and transition sentences to many essay topics). I feel like we saw improvement this session, and I'm looking forward to seeing even more in the next session!

We started studying Logical Reasoning. We simply walked through several questions from a practice test and discussed why each answer choice was either correct or incorrect. We also discussed specifically what types of answers are correct and incorrect for must be true questions.
