"Over the break, the student worked on her essays for the admissions process to college. They were fabulous! I didn't have to edit much--she has a strong voice, and some very solid ideas. This week, we did an ISEE bootcamp practice test. We started with a timed essay. She did very well, and I encouraged her to vary her vocabulary and add a few specifics. Next, she did a timed verbal reasoning section, in which she also scored very highly. She did a reading comprehension section after--which she did the best on. She then took a math section. She has been advised not to spend so much time on each question, so that she can get all the questions she definitely knows correct. I think her conceptual knowledge is solid, and she is ready for the exam. We then discussed her results and what to expect. We are scheduled to run a "practice" ISEE on Tuesday evening."
"The student worked out math problems in several areas that are covered on the test. The student was more anxious in the past when it came to time-reviewed strategies and I had the student work out math problems rather than using mental math strategies only. The student is much less anxious and has gotten a lot better at showing and proving answers in both reading and math."
"We started with a reading passage. We continued with vocab in and out of context. I taught the student to find the common denominator for adding unlike fractions. We finished with figurative language."
