"The student has taken the ACT twice before and done a prep course at her school. When we discussed the test, she stated she already has a couple of good strategies and an idea of how the test should be taken. We will work on timing her rigorously and recreating testing conditions as closely as possible to help work on her nerves. She said she struggled to finish Reading in time because she is a slow reader so we started with that, discussing how to answer the passages without reading the entire excerpt first. I went through a passage with her discussing picking out key words, etc. Then I had her do a passage on her own and timed her. She missed three questions and took about 13 minutes. For Reading, we are going mainly focusing on getting her to take the passages faster with the same accuracy. I gave her work to do and she seemed enthusiastic to get to work and improve her score. After the first meeting I am optimistic that she will work hard and combat her nerves to improve her score."
