Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent the majority of the session discussing academic planning, scheduling, and his approach to coursework. I had him schedule his free time and decide how much time he could dedicate daily to his math course. We found that he has at least two hours of free time each day and should spend at least an hour every day working on math. I had him plan each day's work for the next week. We spent the remainder of the session on the Chapter 5 homework, and I introduced strategies to improve his study habits. Lastly, we discussed his need to review the textbook and keep it handy during his course work."
"We continued studying for her algebra end of course make-up test. Main topics included the distance formula, perpendicular and parallel lines, and solving systems of equations."
"The student and I continued working in her workbook. Her mother and I are both working with her to increase retention."
"We covered topics in linear equations including slope-intercept form, standard form, point-slope form, solving a system of equations by graphing, substitution, and elimination. The student did an amazing job on the material. She had a few issues remembering how to do some of the problems at first but after a basic review she tackled every problem I gave her. She did better than some of the high school students I have taught."
"We worked through about 30 problems on the student's study guide for the test tomorrow. They involved translating polynomials, factoring, finding the degree, and leading coefficient determination. We also worked on multiplying, adding, and dividing polynomials using both long division and synthetic division. We also factored trinomials."
"The student had to review her algebra before her midterm final on Friday. We reviewed exponents and fractional and negative exponentiation. She has to review again all we have seen today, especially knowing when exponents need to be multiplied and when they have to be added. She also has to practice radical expressions."
