Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student was still feeling ill at ease with adding and subtracting with negative numbers using absolute value, so today we focused our attention on those main ideas. We used a few practice QR tests. To switch gears, we did a quick review of the other areas of the test, mainly verbal and reading, which he continues to perform solidly on. When we returned to practice work with negative numbers, he was able to put the methods I had given him into practice properly. I feel that we have addressed and solved all of our main issues and that he will do well on Friday's test."
"We began the session with additional Quantitative Reasoning practice problems. Overall the student did very well with these - he is able to intuit the answers to the questions and reason through with the correct logic. However, he did have a bit of trouble with determining the mean, so we reviewed the definition as well as the process for calculating the mean. We then moved on to some practice problems from the Mathematics Achievement section of the exam. He had a bit of trouble with converting between fractions and decimals and recalling how to work with common denominators, but improved once we revisited these concepts. We also worked on algebraic expressions, which was a bit tricky for the student at first, but became more clear after further discussion review."
"I broke this session up into sections, spacing out two essays between 30 minutes at the beginning and 30 minutes at the end of our session. This seems to help the student. She's improving her essays, keeps a consistent structure and organization, but sometimes struggles coming up with content. She is learning to edit at the end as well, which helps her. She consistently scores pretty close to 100% on all the multiple choice questions."
