Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed specific topics that she would be tested on this week such as drawing Lewis structures, bond dissociation energy and enthalpy. The student should be going over the material again on her own to ensure that she understands the material."
"We reviewed a variety of concepts in the final exam review guide in preparation for the upcoming final. In algebra 2 we reviewed rules for simplifying exponents."
"The student has a chance to retake her Unit 10 test. We first reviewed questions marked wrong and clarified any conceptual questions. She understands the concepts and was able to clearly explain them, and so we focused on some test taking strategies which would increase her score. These included: 1) making sure that she is familiar with key diagrams, and especially the axes; 2) always writing out units; and 3) writing down the Gibbs free energy equation to map out scenarios with different signs for the entropy and enthalpy variables. We walked through completing a conversion from kJ to J with the appropriate conversion factor. Her Unit 11 test is on Tuesday, and it will address topics relating to equilibrium. We talked about important concepts such as the equilibrium constant, the equilibrium expression, and Le Chatelier's Principle. We also addressed the effects of pressure, volume, concentration, and temperature on equilibrium. As a practice problem, we walked through solubility equilibria and calculating the concentration of a given product. She has several worksheets to work on and I asked her to note any confusing questions so that we can address them during our next session."
