Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on fractions. We worked on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing them. We also worked on her spelling words for the week."
"Today the student and I focused on math. She started by completing her multiplication sets 6-9. She then completed a timed trial of 40 problems with numbers 1-9 in five minutes. Next we did two sets of division problems with multiples 1-9. She then did her science homework on the tundra. She read the passage aloud and then answered a series of questions. We focused on how to compose questions so that they read as full sentences. This usually requires writing a portion of the question in the answer. Next, she read out loud from her chapter book, focusing on slowing down so that she wasn't skipping or adding in non-existent words. We ended the session with going back and completing an additional set of her 8's times tables."
"The student did fantastic today. We started off by working on his reading response journal. He wrote a summary, a prediction, the funniest part, and then he created an amazing "new" ending to the book. He did fantastic. We learned two new words. His favorite part were the questions, which he got 5 out of 7 correct, and he rated the session as a 10 on a 10-point scale. Awesome job!"
"The student completed his homework assignments first. His responsibility was to create a story incorporating select vocabulary words. He did well and was able to think creatively. The second portion of homework pertained to math. The questions included perimeter and several other questions. In terms of perimeter, he does understand how to calculate it. He then read to me. He continues to read very well, not stumbling on words such as Fitzgerald, tournament, and boundaries where other 3rd graders might. We concluded our session by working on several questions from a practice test. He has several math questions to complete for our next session."
"Today, the student and I worked on math and finalizing his paper that is due tomorrow. The math consisted of word problems and subtracting fractions. He did well with the word problem. He also had his reflex math homework, which he completed online during the session. He always has a great attitude toward his schoolwork. For the paper assignment, we reviewed the new words he included in his essay; we also read over his work, making sure all requirements were met. He received a perfect score on a quiz he had today; that was rewarding and a pleasure to see."
"Student 1 had a review for her math test as homework, which was about six pages! It was time-consuming but not difficult for her. Then, we did a practice spelling test, which she did well on. Student 2 only had word study sentences and math today. The math was pretty easy for her, because it included lots of factors of ten. Student 3 did well on his practice spelling test, only missing one. We then read two short books on an app on my phone, which he really enjoyed, and he recorded it on his log."
