Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I met with the student to discuss sequences. We talked about strategies for recognizing both arithmetic and recursive sequences. I explained how one can write a general formula to describe an entire arithmetic sequence. Lastly, we worked through a few examples of determining terms far along in the sequence. By the end of our session he really seemed to have gotten the hang of recognizing patterns and working with sequences."
"The student read several pages from the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" by Jeff Kinney. Then he completed the practice exam for the 3rd grade. Very few mistakes were made on the practice test. Excellent work on the reading, math, and science sections. He also read the "Freaky Fact or Fiction: Human Body" after which we both guessed if the story was a fact or a fiction. We read a story about the macrophages and a few others. For the last assignment he wrote a short paragraph about what he did on Friday evening."
"The student had a new sheet of vocab including verbs that we went over. He was able to conjugate the verbs for me, as well translate a sentence I would tell him using conjugated verbs and the vocab words. We also went through his notebook and got ahead. I talked to him a lot in Spanish during the session, and he would respond to me in Spanish. He could do some sentences on his own, but he needed some help or repetition of the question on others. I would also try to apply the questions to him, so that he could answer about himself. We kept referring back to the vocab sheet to ensure that he was memorizing them well. I advised him to continue making flash cards to prepare for tests and make sure to stay organized."
"Topics covered: Stoichiometry: moles, empirical formulas and molecular formulas, limiting reactants. The student is very smart and understood the concepts right away. She just needs more practice problems and a more logical presentation of the topics. I'm confident that she will be ready for her midterms."
"We discussed the best strategies for limiting stress during the test, and for the preparation he should follow for the next week following up to his test. We then moved to review articles I have sent since our last session. I then let him walk me through his passages, addressing each question in the context of author's point of view and tone. He will continue to practice this before the next session."
"Today it was great to hear that the student's Economics grade shot up to a B! So proud of her! We worked on the next chapter of the book, focusing on the banking system with key vocabulary and main issues."
