Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Topics covered included conjugating verbs in the preterit and subjunctive forms, and completion of worksheets which were started in the classroom to be completed as homework. We practiced verbally how to use three to five verbs in the preterit and subjunctive forms. The student needs further practice on using irregular verbs in the subjunctive form in situations including *probability and *hypothetical. We agreed to have examples via text so that he may write 2 sentences with five verbs we chose together as practice for the next session. We also reviewed the syllabus for his current class, and I explained to use the teacher's website content as a way to be ahead and to be prepared for the teacher when the topics come up in class. His performance is at the Spanish 4 level and with further tutoring sessions his grade will improve significantly."
"The student's class has begun working on the preterit tense of verb conjugation. We looked over her new material and some of the irregular verb conjugations as well as the standard conjugation for regular/non stem-changing verbs. We practiced sentence translation by coming up with a series of statements in English using the past tense. We then worked through each sentence to translate appropriately into Spanish using the applicable preterit tense, and we looked up translations of any words she didn't know. As we worked through the sentence translations and discussed the challenges with irregular and stem-changing verbs in the preterit, I made a series of flashcards for any verbs that were hard for her to recall (Spanish verb on one side/English translation on the other). I also suggested that, with particularly unusual/irregular verbs, a good study method was simply to practice writing the complete verb conjugation several times repeatedly to better memorize those. We will incorporate this exercise into our future sessions for any verbs she does not know."
"Yesterday, on our first lesson, we covered subjunctive verb conjugations. While she has yet to receive the results from a quiz taken on Monday, she appeared to struggle at first with the concept of subjunctive verbs, but after multiple exercises, she became more familiar with the concept."
