"I had the student do a timed critical reading section today. She did well on it only missing one or two questions per passage. I do want to get that number down, but she seemed comfortable with the method for handling the passages. We talked about the questions she missed, and many times the right answer is one of her last two choices, so she definitely understands the content, she just needs to trust her instincts a little more. We did several more passages after the section, and I gave her another section for homework."
"Last night, we just worked on a couple math problems but mostly on vocabulary and speed and a method to take the test. I sent her a sheet so she could study the formulas for calculating the area of triangles and circles. We discussed issues of time management at the test itself. She does not have an issue at this point, but we discussed making sure she answers the easiest questions first to get through the whole test and circling the harder ones to go back to. Usually, the test goes from easy to hard in the verbal and math but there may be one or two she should skip over and go back to. I will go over this with her more after I review the test she is going to take on Sunday."
"The student was very engaged and worked well. She had a few vocabulary words to finish, and we reviewed them all. Then I had her work on exercises from the workbook to practice recognition of the words and solidify her understanding of the meanings. She did very well, with a few small mistakes on the first few problems, but I put that down to her not fully understanding the directions. We then worked on the method for solving analogy problems and I introduced her to some of the most common word pair relationships. I got her to work on a fairly simple set of problems to help build her confidence. She answered all the problems correctly except three, and we added the words she didn't understand to her list of words. Her homework was a new set of words, and to study the types of analogies."
