"Over the past week, I asked the student to practice one section in each of the three parts of the SAT (math, reading, and writing). She did very well on the reading section, missing only one vocab question and a small amount of reading comprehension questions. She could use a little more practice with pacing her reading; however, she seems to be on a good track. We have practiced math a lot over the past few weeks, so it did not surprise me that she did well on that section. While she could certainly do better, most of the questions she got wrong were the section's most difficult. We discussed how to work with percentages and make accurate diagrams. We talked a little bit about strategies to improve her score on the writing multiple choice section, including reading the sentences aloud (in her head), trying to make similar sentences, and using grammar learned in foreign language classes to her advantage. She was actually able to get a majority of the questions she got wrong on her second attempt, which bodes well for the future. I asked her to complete three packets again this week: one math, and two writing multiple choice. This time, I reminded her to use the strategies we discussed and asked her to time herself. This should help her with time management, which we will discuss in more detail next week."
"Sentence Completions, Math (Quadrilaterals and Triangles). Assigned: finish practice test 4 and start practice test 5."
"We looked at an essay and proofread it, then worked through a few problematic math questions. We spent the majority of the session on the writing section- there seems to be a definite improvement."
