"The student and I worked on math today. He was having trouble grasping how to calculate percentages, so we did percentage problems on a worksheet and on a sample test section. He is okay if I help him walk through it, but he still needs to get to the point where he can easily do it himself because he reads my face to tell if he's doing something wrong or right. We spent some time on percentages and then moved on to a sample math section of the test. I really wanted him to start doing test problems so that he can start applying what he's learned to the problems. He was able to do many on his own which was great, and some he needed my help on but understood it as we went through it. He needs to practice, practice, practice to become more comfortable with the material, especially percentages."
"Worked with the student on all subjects. Reviewed negative numbers, LD, % - fraction - decimal conversions, metric and American system of measurement conversions, properly labeling units- i.e., squared units go with area answers. Touched on Math topics on the checklist I made. We reviewed how to do Reading sections, went through and examined 2-3 samples and corrected her work in those sections. Defined more words and worked more analogies. The check list I gave her also listed brief testing strategies for each section. We meet one more time before she tests."
"The student and I had our last session before his SSAT tonight. We focused on verbal and writing. We practiced analogies, synonyms, and overall strategies. He did very well with synonyms. I feel very confident in his abilities, and I am looking forward to hearing about his results. I have very much enjoyed working with him and his family."
