Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we spent most of session discussing how we would prepare for the midterms after winter break. We organized all of his history notes from studying from previous tests and reviewed the topics that we had not covered together. I told him that he needed to find his exams and study sheets for other classes. I also asked him to email his English and French professors to figure out exactly what would be on the exam. We will create study outlines for each subject, reviewing broad concepts, and he will use those to assist him while he studies in his free time."
"The student worked on a civics assignment, which she completed and turned in to her teacher. Next she listened to a 50 minute documentary in relation to civics and answered questions as she went along. I assisted in answering her questions and encouraged her progress."
"Today we went over Exam prep for biology and the student's power point presentation for Social Studies. For biology we went over the several ways I would like to see the student prepare for the exam. He expressed a strong commitment to do a study guide and flash card in preparation for Tuesday's bio exam as the study guide study method helped him on his previous geometry exam. I went over some vocab and examples of his population density bio topic in prep for the exam. He expressed good understanding over the topic after we went into some in depth examples. We spent a good amount of time going over his power point presentation for social studies, Irish Revolution. I went over some editing of the power point presentation with the student and shared with him a great power point presentation tool to help guide him in creating the best presentation possible. There were many grammatical issues with the slides, I allowed him to correct these sentences on his own when prompted. I saw that he picked up very nicely on all the helpful recommendations as he began to self-edit his work as we went through the slides, make his own recommendations for editing. I had him send me the power point, and I shared my screen with him so we could go over the power point together. I then sent back the power point for him to use my notes as a reference for when he edits his power point. He was much more inclined to work with me today as he is seeing progress with his work and feels better about the subjects he is learning. He felt much better in regards to his test taking. I reviewed potential test questions and styles of questions that he may face. I also recommended that he print out a weekly calendar to best record all his assignments and homework due for that week. I also recommended a monthly calendar print out to keep track of all exams and due dates. He did a great job today."
"We covered a lot of material in today's lesson. The student completed assignments in Math, History and Science. We also reviewed for her Sacred Studies and Math tests, both of which are on Thursday."
"The student worked on Reading and Math. He also worked on addition fluency and 3 digit and 2 digit multiplication. He finished all of his work."
"Today, the student and I worked on Play Attention, Duolingo, and Math. He's doing a great job in math, but sometimes forgets the difference between LCM and GCF. We will go over this in detail next session. Keep up the good work!"
