Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Worked on Reading practice to improve fluency and accuracy; reviewed and practiced spelling words; introduced the ending phonic sounds of nk, ng, tch; and practiced phonics to this point."
"This session focused on developing her reading skills. The session began with the student reading the first chapter of the book, The Maze Runner. While the student was reading, I offered suggestions and meanings about words that the student were confusing. When the student finished reading the first chapter, I reviewed the list of words that posed a difficulty. When I finished the list and reviewed with the student, I reread the chapter give the student an opportunity to hear how the chapter sounded."
"1) We began with the student doing his reading homework, which again included a short passage followed by comprehension questions. He also read the directions with minimal prompting. 2) I did a random dictation of the 10 new spelling words for this week. He was able to spell the regular CVC words correctly: hit, bat. He had some trouble with the irregularly spelled sight words. The teacher sent home a protocol for daily practice in preparation for the weekly spelling test. 3) We practiced words from an early reader with a high-motivation topic: Tae Kwon Do, by Terry Pierce. Then he read the book, with minimal prompting. We will work on this again at our next meeting."
