Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I did a homework assignment for her Algebra II class. Her teacher assigned several problems that dealt with manipulating polynomials in various settings. The student knew the material very well, evidenced by the quick review we conducted. I told her we would both work the problems and compare results, which we did. We found mistakes in each other's work and comfortably worked the problems out."
"Ratios and Proportions, word problems in finding the rate finishing a task. My responsibility for next time is to give the student books containing fun quizzes and puzzles in percentages, fractions, ratios and proportions (borrowed by me from the local library). The student is expected to look at the supplemental exercise problems in his module."
"Today we covered circumference, and area of circles, as well as equations involving pi. The student had trouble understanding how exponents work, especially squared, and he had trouble determining which formulas to use. The student was eager to learn. I taught him how to work out exponents, and taught him which formulas are necessary for which problems. The student got a 92 on his previous math test. No concerns."
"I helped her review a worksheet for her US math class. She reviewed mean, median, mode and range for sets of numbers. I told her to work on memorizing the definitions for each so she could recall them for the test."
"We had a shorter session today. We went over some coding basics and then some specific questions for an article that she needs to recreate. I became familiar with the article."
"The student and I did 2 sections of her final review packet - her final exam will be next Thursday. We reviewed quadratic vs. cubic vs. linear vs. exponential graphs and solving systems of linear equations. She had some difficulty understanding shifts to the (x-h)^2+k vertex format of a quadratic equation, but we will review major concepts again next week."
