Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We based this session on problems from the practice booklet including probability, area and circumference of circles, and pi. We also did a brief lesson on long division and more difficult multiplication problems. My hope is that we will master long division and multiplication by the end of our sessions. She shows an aptitude at picking up concepts very quickly, specifically finding area and circumference of circles. She also seems eager to learn and asks intelligent questions. She also always attempts problems. My hope moving forward is mastering long division, and multiplication, and building confidence in test-taking skills."
"The student has an upcoming exam on right triangles and trigonometry, so we went over some practice problems on things he needs more review on, such as special right triangles, proving Pythagorean Theorem, and using sine, cosine, and tangent to solve problems. He has a basic understanding. For more practice I'm sending him more problems to do on his own."
"The student had an upcoming quiz to study for and wanted to review the chapter on rational exponents and inverse functions. We went over the exercises in detail. Despite this, we did manage to get the review exercises done, and she was able to comprehend what she was doing. As of now, I will monitor her progress and make sure she's on task."
"Today the student and I went over his homework which also served as a Unit 5 and 6 review for his math final next Wednesday. He is very good at mental math but struggles to keep his work organized and can sometimes get lost in his work. I think these problems will work themselves out with more practice and better organization. We will continue to address this in future sessions."
"This was a good session. I introduced dice and polygons. We are now able to identify many polygons: circles, triangles, quadrilaterals, squares, rectangles, pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, octagons, nonagons, decagons, and dodecagons. We only briefly discussed dice from 6-sided to 20-sided (I provided all dice). We did not quite get to probability, but we did model football fields and discussed units: inches, feet, yards, miles, ounces, pounds, pints, quarts, gallons, centimeters, meters, kilometers, milliliters, liters, grams, kilograms. We will continuously review units. We also did some Roman numeral review. We will continue with these topics, and besides Sudoku, this will encapsulate the remainder of unit 1."
"We completed a review of simplifying rational expressions, that focused on excluded values. We also completed practice with solving for variables of rational expressions and inequalities. In addition, we conducted a brief overview of vertical and horizontal asymptotes, domain, range, x-intercept, y-intercept, and describing the increasing and decreasing aspects of the function."
