Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked through a couple timed practice test sections and we reviewed the questions she answered incorrectly. Then we talked in depth about the types of problems she tends to struggle with: function notation and graphs, inequalities and properties of integers. I told her to continue practicing with timed sections."
"The student and I reviewed 3 sections of a practice exam he had completed. We also completed an additional 2 sections. For homework I assigned an additional practice exam."
"When I arrived, the student had completed a math practice and six vocab questions, he had not attempted the reading comprehension passage at all. We began by going over the math section, which he did decently on. Afterwards, we discussed the importance of order of operations and the meanings of different types of exponents (negative, fractional, etc.). Because he needed to practice working within time constraints, I gave him another math section and asked him to answer as many questions as he could within a 25-minute period. Although he did not manage to finish the last three questions, he got a vast majority of the others correct and seemed to understand the topics on the ones he had omitted or answered incorrectly. I ended the session by asking him to finish the reading comprehension section. He worked independently on each question; I timed him and offered him feedback when he answered. I'm glad he seems to understand the concepts at play in both math and reading, but his time management needs to be improved. Because he absolutely needs to practice to do this, I left him with more work than usual (two sections of each math and reading in his practice book) and told him to do one a day, giving him a schedule to follow. I hope that with extra practice, he'll be able to put his knowledge to good use and manage his time appropriately."
