"The next step for the student is to complete a full practice test to see where she needs to focus her practice on in the future. So for this session we completed several sections of a practice test and assigned others as homework for her."
"I had asked the student to complete one and a half math sections during our last session. We began today's session by checking her answers. We talked about being flexible in problem solving by keeping track of what we knew and focused on taking problems step by step and using diagrams to stay organized. As she is done with testing for now, and her placement test is approaching quickly, I left her with a math packet, a reading packet, and a writing packet. I'd like her to finish those this week so we can continue talking about staying organized and pacing problem solving."
"The student and I started this session by going over some grammar questions he had from the practice test he had been working on over the past week. Although he had been able to recognize the plural vs. singular problem on one of the grammar questions, he missed it on a couple of other ones. I showed him some of the other types of questions that will most likely be seen on the admissions test itself. I also let him know that the test often includes a strangely worded yet grammatically correct sentence as one of the last two questions, and to not get tricked because they sound odd. Memorizing these types of questions should definitely help him when he takes the real test. We then went over some of the words in the vocabulary section of the test. He has been keeping a list of words that he hasn't recognized, so that is good, especially if he makes flash cards from them. Finally we worked on some math questions that he had not known how to answer on the test. I showed him how to answer a couple of other math questions, which he should now remember how to solve. To help in the writing of the essay, I told him to always use the grammar rules I've been teaching him for the writing section of the exam. I also said to always use clear language in his essay and also to include specific details to back up whatever his main point is. His homework this week is to take another practice exam."
