Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, the student and I reviewed her vocabulary. She seems to have a better understanding of the definitions and does not have to look up as many words. We also went over editing two paragraphs in order to get her to think about punctuation and grammar. Lastly, we worked through multiple choice math problems. She did very well on these problems and seemed to understand the concepts that were being tested."
"I worked with the student on a reading comprehension passage, asking him questions as we read. He did a great job paying attention and making predictions as he read. We looked over his homework from last week and completed a few analogies. I also had him complete a short verb tense exercise. Additionally, we started on a sequencing exercise and will continue it next week."
"Today we went to the library to get books for a writing assignment for both students. Student 1 is writing a persuasive essay on why the light bulb is one of the best inventions and Student 2 is writing a bio on J. Appleseed."
"In this session, the student and I prepared for her upcoming Spanish test. We covered technology and car part vocabulary and formal commands-structure, irregular commands, reflexive and their usage with direct/indirect pronouns. She was ready for majority of the concepts; however, she needed to study and memorize more of the tech vocab. Once we went over the words, the other concepts were much easier."
"We worked on percentages and then some Biology work. The student seems to be understanding using equivalent ratios to find percentages. In Biology, we reviewed her study guide, mostly the essay questions. She always has good notes from these classes and has good habits like showing her work and writing in complete sentences during her answers."
"Reviewed a bit of everything covered last semester. Much review is needed as he seems to have forgotten how (or is not fully willing) to do certain things. Next session will review case endings and sentence construction, focusing primarily on translation. The student also needs to keep reviewing vocabulary from the lessons in order to keep up."
"We reviewed the chemistry calculations from last session. We then went over some algebra work that involved solving quadratic equations. We spent a good amount of time working on some quadratic word problems. We then briefly covered some chemistry which involved determining the solubility of different compounds."
"During this session, metaphors and similes were the area of focus. The imagination the student demonstrated in creating his own simile after discussing the technique was amazing! His use of details and imagination would persuade any audience."
"The student and I mostly discussed questions from the Physical Sciences section of the state practice test practice test 5 today, covering topics ranging from atomic physics to solubility chemistry. The takeaway here is to continue to focus on the fundamentals by making sure to know units, to be able to define variables, and to recall the basic equations quickly. Knowing these fundamentals will help you be able to interpret questions quickly and be able to solve the often complicated Physical Sciences questions in the allotted time."
"Finished reading chapter 11 of Lightning Thief and reviewed chapters 9-11 for today's quiz. We read a few pages of his history book about ancient Greece, focusing mostly on their new alphabet. In the time left, we began his homework on GCF in math."
"Tonight the student finished her math homework. We worked on adding fractions and reducing to lowest terms. We also completed her spelling homework which was focusing on synonyms and analogies. We also corrected a quiz on using context clues to identify the meaning of a word."
"We reviewed momentum and collisions. We were able to get through than entire chapter, and the student was able to start her homework with little assistance."
