Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had completed the practice test 1 in her test book. As she is testing soon, I am giving her one test strategy concept per session, then having her review that the next time we work. She is to go slowly and make sure she answers each question. With vocab and verbal analogies, she is to note grammatical form of the words, and match that form along with order of the words used and their meaning. We review many new words in the verbal section. We practiced new math concepts learned in the last two sections as well. Today I covered using negative numbers in all operations, distributive property, and solving for x. We'll practice those types of problems for our next meeting as well, and also cover basic geometry. She will complete Practice test 2 in the book for the next meeting."
"We did a routine initial review of all the major concepts that will be on the ssat exam. The student did a series of practice tests. It seems as if he is a visual learner so the best teaching technique I can use is to be as visual as possible."
"On Monday, we discussed set-up of test and testing methods, then took shortened versions of math and reading tests. I left the student with a reading test and math practice test. Today we discussed the math practice test (needs improvement in geometry and intermediate pre-algebra), reading test, and types of questions on the reading test."
